Readiness for way oral, breastfeeding and gestational diabetes mellitus: a case-control study

ABSTRACT Purpose to verify the readiness for oral feeding and breastfeeding in newborns of mothers diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods observational, analytical, quantitative case-control study. For evaluation non-nutritive sucking, PROFAS protocol was used performance at mother's breast, Speech Therapy - Breastfeeding. The sample stratified into two groups, experimental group, composed GDM, control healthy mothers. statistical analysis, Mann-Whitney, Shapiro Wilk Student's t tests were used. Results total consisted 46 newborns, 21 from group 25 group. P<0.05 observed comparison between groups variables: oscillation state consciousness, global hypotonia, weak search reflex, less than five suctions per pause assessment holding on falling asleep after starting suction mother-infant positioning.
